Th1 cytokine production in the lungs of old mice during infection with M. <t>tuberculosis.</t> Young and old mice were aerogenically infected with a low dose of M. tuberculosis <t>Erdman.</t> At specific times after infection the right middle lung lobe was removed, homogenized in Ultraspec, and frozen at −80°C. RNA was isolated and reverse transcribed, and cDNA for IL-12p40 (A) and IFN-γ (B) was amplified by real-time PCR.
